One Fabric Wonder
For our first class, we will discuss fabric...which ones will work and what will not. Play with mirrors to see how the blocks will look. (Bring fabrics that you have that you think might work...remember that you need 6 repeats of print.) The info below is to give you some idea of types of fabrics to choose. You do not have to have fabric for our first class.
Traditional One Block Wonder: This quilt is made using one fabric, and a 60 degree ruler, making hexagons (1 half at a time) so the quilt goes together in strips. (no Y seams)
Panel Quilt: This quilt uses one fabric and a 60 degree ruler, making hexagons (1 half at a time) so the quilt goes together in strips. (no Y seams). There are 7 panels...6 used in the block construction and an additional panel used ion the center of the quilt.
Bonus-Picnic Quilt: This quilt uses one fabric ...and additional fabric for sashing and borders.
60 Degree Quilt: You will want to choose a floral, something with various shapes, color to get a variety of blocks...mine is only two colors but there is a lot of movement in the fabric to make the blocks vary. For this quilt you will need 6 repeats of the printed fabric. For example if there is an 18" repeat you will need to buy 3 plus yards for the blocks. If you want your quilt larger you will need to buy 12 repeats and double your blocks.
Picnic Quilt: You will want to choose fabric with lineal qualities, such as floral stripe, border prints, and label fabric...some geometric fabric. Floral will work also. This is base on 4 repeats. You will need 4 repeats to make a set of blocks. This is a great quilt and can be addicting...the outcome is always a surprise.
Pick fabric....Determine the repeat....Determine the quilt to make.....
using 60 degree (6 repeats) = 60 degree ruler or
4 piece block (4 repeats)=regular ruler.
